What to pack for a triathlon race!

What to pack for a triathlon race!

Whether you are new to Triathlon or an old hat it is an unspoken rule that you will forget to pack something on your race weekend. Over the years the most forgotten item in our crew is the watch recharger. I have received calls at 3am with someone freaking out over a flat battery on their watch. Don't worry we took care of it.

What do you need for race day? Here's a list of basic items you will need. Of course personalising it is all up to you

To make it easier we have broken it down into each leg of the race.

Before/After Race

  • Race Belt
  • Chip Strap (some races provide these)
  • Race Number and stickers for your bike and helmet (put these on before you rack your bike)
  • ID (required for some races)
  • Basic 1st Aid Kit
  • Nutrition
  • Raceday clothing
  • Watch/HRM
  • Recovery thongs/recovery tights (for the longer races)
  • Post race clothing

Swim

  • Wetsuit (if needed)
  • 2 pairs of goggles
  • Swim cap as provided
  • 2 transition towels
  • Sunscreen
  • Anti-friction lube
  • Anti-fog

Ride

  • Helmet
  • Bike shoes
  • Sunglasses
  • Waterbottles with nutrition in
  • Nutrition
  • Spare tube and tyre changing gear
  • Co2 cartridges
  • Bike pump
  • Bike

Run

  • Running shoes
  • Gels
  • Hat/visor
  • Sunglasses

This is a suggested race day checklist and needs to be adapted to your individual race, the length of the race and your personal preferences. As you get more experience in racing you will find things that work for you and things that don't. Try everything suggested to you, you never know what might become a staple in your race day routine.

The key is to never change anything on race day! No matter what. Do what you have trained to do. Keep your nutrition at the right level.

Have your recovery pizza and cold beer ready and waiting.

And most of all....Trust your training and enjoy yourself!

You trained hard for this.
