Meet Jason Sams

Which is your favourite leg of the Tri/Ironman?

My favourite leg of the Iron Man or triathlon would be the swim followed by the bike and the run.

What made you start doing Tri's?

I’ve always been an active person in playing sport I had friends doing triathlons and they asked me to try it out since I had a swimming background and a mountain biking background and just needed to learn to run. Unfortunately that is still the case.

What was the worst thing that has happened to you in a race and how did you deal with it?

Touchwood I’ve never had a bad thing happened to me during a race. If there was something that had gone wrong in a race it would be that I occasionally cramp in the run.

Best race where everything fell into place?

I don’t think I’ve ever had a race where everything has fallen into place there is always things to improve on and get better at.

What do you think has been your biggest achievement so far?

The biggest achievement I think l’ve done would be a Smiling for Smiddy Ride which I rode from Brisbane to Townsville 1600 km in eight days.

When you started out did you ever think you would be able to do an Ironman?

When starting doing triathlons I’ve slowly progressed from sprint to Olympic to half Iron Man and now to doing a full Ironman. I’m always looking to improve and better myself and challenge myself.

Why do you continue to do it?

I enjoy doing triathlons because of the adrenaline rush, pushing the body to its limits and finding out what are your limits. I also enjoy the new friendships that I have found.
